Today were going to review the Yamaha DGX 640 keyboard. Some time ago I did a review of the DGX 620 keyboard, which in some respects has similar features to the newly created DGX 640.
As with many other digital pianos the Yamaha DGX 640 features a graded hammer action. If you’re not familiar with graded hammer action what it really means is that the lower notes in the low register require a heavier touch and the notes in the high register.
The Yamaha DGX 640 produces amazing realistic and dynamic sounds I get the keyboard very natural acoustic properties that resemble true life acoustic instruments like the piano.
The DGX 640 also features digital signal processing that include over 237 types of digital effects which range from reverb like to anything like distortion for that very edgy feel.
To go along with the authentic sounds of this keyboard the DGX 640 also features a MIDI sequencer for arranging your songs. Beyond the MIDI sequencer there is a component that allows you to select styles to any piece of music. For instance, you complete and balanced song and instantly change that ballot to a bossa nova rhythm and feel.
And as if that wasn’t enough, the DGX 640 also features a music database which means you can store information into a database or store information using a USB thumb drive. With the USB connectivity you can connect your computer to your keyboard and use any one of many MIDI software programs to turn your DGX 640 into a full-fledged recording studio.
There is a feature that I really like which is called performance assistant technology. It’s a feature that will let you sound like a professional keyboard player by filling in notes and patterns with rthythm.
The GTX 640 can actually help you learn to play kennel even faster. How can you do that you ask? Quite simply, it features the ability to score music that you can read as you play a song back. You can actually follow the notes as it is playing.
You can get the optional three panel unit that has the same titles as an acoustic piano.
