Microkorg XL

MicroKorg XL

Today I’m going to talk about the Korg microkorg XL synthesizer. Upon first inspection it would appear that this keyboard looks rather cheap but don’t be fooled. The perception of cheapness might come from the fact that this keyboard is quite small with only three octaves available.

Previous versions of the micro Korg XL keyboard did reveal some sense of cheapness because of the keys plastic like feel and touch that resembled that of an entry-level keyboard . That has completely changed with the microkorg XL. So if you’ve looked at this keyboard in the past, you may want to reconsider it again.

At the heart of the micro Korg XL is its twin multi-wave oscillators (based on the 8-voice MMT engine). This is further linked directly to a mixer which in turn can be transformed through a wave shaper and multimode filters. The micro Korg produces analog waveforms along with a string of 7 total algorithms.

The XL also includes a vocoder, and effects processor. And the sounds produced by this keyboard are comparable to the premium Korg R3 synth.

The Good

The microkorg XL produces a wonderful sound at an affordable price. You’re getting a lot of bang for the buck.

The Bad

Although there is good value for the price, the microkorg XL is a light version than the microkorg.
