SP170 Digital Keyboard

If you’re looking for a good keyboard that gives you good value for your money and you don’t want to spend too much money then I would suggest looking at the Korg SP170 digital piano. This keyboard is priced around the $500 range and offers a lot of features for the price.

The Korg SP170 features 88 notes, so it has a full-length keyboard and also it includes naturally weighted hammer action to effectively replicate the touch of an acoustic piano.

Surprisingly, this keyboard offers 120 notes of polyphony which is basically unheard of for this price of keyboard. The 120 notes of polyphony is great for orchestrating and arranging songs using a MIDI sequencer.

Korg SP170 Digital Piano

In terms of the sound bank, this keyboard offers 10 instruments including two acoustic pianos, two electric pianos, harpsichord, clavichord, vibraphone, pipe organ, electric organ and strings. That is certainly enough instruments to keep you playing for a long time. The Korg SP170 also offers an effects module for reverb and chorus with preset depths.

Transposing in Any Key

This piano also comes with 10 preset demo songs. In terms of functions the SP170 comes with key transpose so you can transpose your music to any key, as well as pitch bend control so you can change the pitch of individual notes, and MIDI channel and the ability to enable or disable MIDI programs.

Output for this keyboard include headphone, line out, 2 MIDI lines and damper pedal connection.

There is a small 9-watt amplifier which is ok for home use but would be underpowered for playing with other band members. The amplifier drives 2 speakers.

The dimensions of the keyboard is 5151.65″ x 12.8″ 55.24 inches and weighs in at 26 pounds. The Korg SP170 comes in 2 colours either white or black.
